Lock 27, "Lusk's Lock" March 2003 - Loomis on page 44 of his book says that the original lockplate disintegrated in 1916. The picture shown on page 79 of Gard's & Vodrey's book was taken in 1913. Comparison of that photo with the shot above will show that they are close but not identical. On page 84, Gard & Vodrey say, "... and the recess where the name plate of stone used to be, identifying it as Lusks Lock ...". This indicates that there was no lockplate in place when they wrote their book. Neither they nor Loomis state when the replacement plate was installed. I'll put that information here when I find out. If anyone knows, please share it with me. |
