Guard Lock at Dam 9

April 2004 - This is about a quarter mile upstream from Gaston's Mill and on the right bank. Linn Loomis, in his 1994 book HERE AND NOW - OHIO'S CANAL'S: THE SANDY AND BEAVER CANAL, calls this Lock 35. Max Gard and William Vodrey Jr. in 1952's THE SANDY AND BEAVER CANAL, said that Lock 35 was farther upstream and on the left bank. They further stated that most of the outer stone had been used for the old stone bridge at Williamsport and that only a little stone remained.
