Lock 46

May 2003 - As you can see in the picture, there is not much there. I wasn't expecting much since Richard Heidel's 1955 picture of the lock showed only a few rough stone. Two weeks before I took this picture, I walked right by without finding the lock. Steve Meek and I found it from canoe when we came to rapids and a lot of rip-rapping along the creek. We got out and walked the canal channel until we, actually Steve, came upon it. The only stone left is what wasn't worth taking or what roots had too good a grip on. Lock 46 is near the end of a very long stretch of canal channel and just before the right wall of the canyon gets very steep, about a half mile above Fredericktown.
